Food choices over air travel are becoming more limited and streamlined. Apart from a packet of pretzels, some airlines do not provide any food whatsoever. Others sell foods, such as cheese, pre-made sandwiches, fruit plates, and snack boxes. Unless you can travel in first or business class, you have very few alternatives.


You can purchase food at the airport and take it aboard your plane, this doesn't always work out as your preferences may not be always available. In a case whereby you have a food allergy or follow a strict diet, you're in a worse situation. Having your carry-on meal is perfect for the plane. It is also the best bet for your choice of meal and saving money. These are points to note as you plan and ensure that your carry-on meal is perfect for the plane.


• TSA Rules


TSA (Transportation Security Administration) prohibits gels and liquids in containers over three ounces in carry-on baggage. It extends to ice packs. Flight attendants may not wish to give you ice out of their freezer to use in your cooler, so you'll need to figure out ways to keep your food cold or pack items which can be held at room temperature.
