Disney Shanghai with Kids

Updated: Jun 15, 2021

In 2013 the future opening of Disney Shanghai was announced. Though it was originally supposed to open its gates to the public in 2015 it didn’t do so until mid-2016. When it finally opened the event was streamed live on Facebook, with thousands of people in attendance. When To Visit In general, the best time to visit Disney Shanghai is the early weekdays as many guests who have arrived there on a Friday have complained of overcrowding. Anytime when school is in session and most people are at work seems to be the ideal time to go.  Visiting the park during October and November is always recommended, as is anytime between March and May. The only exception is the first full week of October, which is the country’s National Day holiday.

When To Visit

Getting To Disney Shanghai You will find that getting to Disney Shanghai is easy to do from the nearby airports. The Shanghai Metro Rail system will get you to the park quickly and easily. However, from nearby Pudong International Airport, you can get a cab to take you the 15-mile distance. In many cases, you will also find that nearby hotels offer shuttles to and from the park. Admission To Disney Shanghai If you are from the US you may find that Disney Shanghai is a great way to save money while still experiencing a Disney park. Compared to admission to those parks, Shanghai is a steal at $77.50 and up for a one day ticket. This ticket gets you into all six lands that make up Disney Shanghai. One thing that differs between tickets to the Shanghai location and tickets to the other locations is that here, the cost is determined by the height of a guest as opposed to his or her age.

Top Park Attractions Disney Shanghai has six lands to explore. Highlights of the park include Gardens of Imagination. It is the home of some magical performances and it even gives you the chance to find your zodiac sign and get a picture with it. This is a truly unique experience other Disney parks don’t have to offer. Treasure Cove is another of the top attractions. With a pirate-theme, it includes the Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure. You enter into the world of Pirates and work alongside Captain Jack Sparrow to steal valuable treasures from Davy Jones. This interactive experience involves many pirates as well as Kraken and stunningly beautiful mermaids. The attraction also includes a compelling play with realistic fighting scenes and impressive stunts. Of all Disney Shanghai’s parks, Fantasyland eclipses them all. Its Enchanted Storybook Castle is even taller than Cinderella’s Castle, something you might have to see to believe. This interactive experience brings you face to face with Snow White. You can wander around the castle and look out the windows to see forests and villages. Another of the top Fantasyland attractions is Voyage to the Crystal Grotto. You will get to enjoy a leisurely float past sculptures and active, eye-catching fountains. You then enter the Crystal Cave and meet up with the Seven Dwarfs as you get to see where each and every one of them live. You can also take a walking tour of the Hundred Acre Wood alongside Winnie the Pooh. Pixar Toy Story Land rounds out the top attractions at Disney Shanghai. Within this park is Rex’s Racer attraction. It gives you a chance to interact with the Slinky Dog Spin ride. When you want to get off your feet you can even jump onto an old western cart pulled by a pony that trots in time with the music playing in the background.

Fast Pass Access Like other Disney parks, you can use the Fast Pass at Disney Shanghai. The service is digital, making it extremely convenient to use. All you have to do is use your phone to reserve your passes, which you can get for any of the multiple parks included in the resort. While the traditional FastPass service is free at the Shanghai location, you can also get a paid Premier Access pass. These can be used on major attractions such as Adventure Isle’s Soaring Over Horizon and Roaring Rapids. It is also available for Tomorrowland’s TRON Light Cycle Power Run and Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue. In Fantasyland, it can be used on attractions such as Peter Pan’s Flight and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

The Top Restaurants Since meals are an important part of any Disney Shanghai experience, it pays to dine at one of the park’s eateries. For authentic Chinese food, the best restaurant in the park is the Wandering Moon Teahouse. You will find it right before the entrance to Fantasyland. Inside the restaurant, you will see many different themes as you enjoy dishes such as pork belly rice and seafood noodles. However, to feed the whole family you may prefer to dine at the Royal Banquet Hall. It’s got a simple menu with dishes you won’t find at other restaurants. Beef short ribs and tasty desserts make up the highlights of this restaurant. The Tangled Tree Tavern Restaurant is a must if your kids can’t get enough of Disney’s Frozen. They will love that it features the Snuggly Duckling seen in the movie. With delicious dishes for the whole family, it’s a delectable experience for those of all ages. Planning It Right A vacation to Disney Shanghai can be like nothing you have ever experienced before. It has sights and experiences to offer that other Disney parks don’t.
